Agile Method
The Agile method is a project management and software development approach based on iterative collaboration, adaptability, and the continuous delivery of value. Its main goal is to respond flexibly to changes and continuously improve the product or service through short work cycles known as iterations or sprints.
- Collaboration with the Client: Ongoing communication with clients ensures the final product meets their expectations.
- Frequent Value Delivery: Priority is given to delivering functional increments rather than waiting for a complete final product.
- Adaptability to Change: Requirements can evolve even in the later stages of development.
- Teamwork: Cooperation among multidisciplinary teams is encouraged.
- Continuous Improvement: Progress is reviewed at the end of each iteration to identify areas for improvement.
Our expertise covers the following technologies and languages:
Node JS Express
- Custom directory structure grouping middlewares, filters, controllers, services, etc., by functionality rather than file type. This ensures that developers’ IDEs are more organised.
- Use of ESLint and Prettier in all our projects.
- We encourage the use and reuse of middleware to reduce duplicate code, maintain clear structure, and avoid “spaghetti code”.
- Yarn is used with versioned .lock files to ensure all developers work with the same package version.
- All projects include an .nvmrc file specifying the required Node version, in addition to being restricted in the package.json.
- We define all session strategies using Passport, whether it’s a known strategy or a custom one.
- Whenever possible and sensible, we create NPM modules to wrap third-party APIs, for example.
- All our projects get a /ping endpoint that returns the system’s status (up or down) along with the status of subservices.
- Use of PM2 to orchestrate Node processes, leveraging server capabilities. This unifies cron jobs with processes and manages logs/errors.
Symfony
- Use of an extended folder structure in Symfony to improve organisation and reduce the learning curve.
- Application development follows SOLID principles, with additional promotion of YAGNI, DRY, and KISS.
- We use the necessary bundles for each application, performing an initial analysis to assess their intended use. This allows us to tailor the solution to the client, avoiding unnecessary complexity.
- FosRestBundle and LexikJWTAuthenticationBundle are used to standardise the generation of REST APIs.
- LexikJWTAuthenticationBundle enables the adoption of JWT for generating stateless REST APIs, allowing the frontend to connect with the API.
- Adaptation to PHP coding standards (PHP Standards Recommendations), such as PSR-4, PSR-12, etc.
- If, during the analysis, we identify that the project consists of separate components that can be broken down into subprojects, we implement Domain-Driven Design. We also leverage various patterns, including:
- CQRS.
- Event-driven system.
- TDD o BDD.
- etc.
Vue
- A common folder structure is used to better organise code and ease the learning curve.
- Vetur, ESLint, and Prettier are implemented across all projects.
- CSS frameworks/libraries, such as Vuetify or TailwindCSS, are used to standardise style guides, tailored to the project’s needs.
- “Slots” are employed to enhance the structure of components and improve their clarity.
- Vuex is used for centralised data store management in applications.
- Component reusability is maximised across projects.
- Nuxt is utilised for the development of SSR platforms.
- Yarn is used with versioned .lock files to ensure all developers work with the same package version.
Infrastructure / Systems / Internal Services
- Using Ansible to set up the necessary infrastructure for project environments.
- Multi-environment setup: We work with a development environment (local in Docker), staging, quality, and production environments.
- Automatic deployments: With a hook in the repository, we trigger Jenkins, which handles the deployment of the project to its remote environment. Depending on the branch and the nature of the project, it will perform different actions.
- Tags are applied in the repository whenever a new version is released.
- Project tracking and documentation are managed in a Youtrack system. Depending on the nature and phase of the project, Agile methodologies such as Scrum or Kanban are used.
